Gr 2-5-Listeners learn first about a dog who participates in desert motocross racing. The owner carefully equips Opee with protective gear and obviously loves both animal and bike. Next, in the survival story of a brain-damaged groundhog, Sidewinder perseveres to learn how to eat, drink, and walk, though she only manages to walk in a circle. With help from Bob Will, a teacher of children with special needs, and the local community, Sidewinder becomes the weather forecaster for Dunkirk, NY. Finally, Samantha Martin, a determined animal trainer, details her struggles to train cats and to get publicity, beginning with her talented cat, Tuna. Well read by Johnny Heller, these stories would be unbelievable-except they're true. Also included are fun facts about each animal. VERDICT Fun listening for the whole family.-Deb Whitbeck, West Ottawa Public Schools, Holland, MI
