"The same fun and factual tidbits that National Geographic Kids is known for are presented here in anaccessible and user-friendly chapter-book format that reads much like fiction...Animal lovers and reluctant readers alike will approve."" —Booklist" This entertaining and humorous chapter book will feature animals who can perform amazing acts like riding motocross, foretelling the weather, and playing a guitar. These stories will enchant readers and empower them to devour the more text-heavy "grown up" style of the book, while still keeping the story easily digestible for a hesitant reader. Gr 2-5-Listeners learn first about a dog who participates in desert motocross racing. The owner carefully equips Opee with protective gear and obviously loves both animal and bike. Next, in the survival story of a brain-damaged groundhog, Sidewinder perseveres to learn how to eat, drink, and walk, though she only manages to walk in a circle. With help from Bob Will, a teacher of children with special needs, and the local community, Sidewinder becomes the weather forecaster for Dunkirk, NY. Finally, Samantha Martin, a determined animal trainer, details her struggles to train cats and to get publicity, beginning with her talented cat, Tuna. Well read by Johnny Heller, these stories would be unbelievable-except they're true. Also included are fun facts about each animal. VERDICT Fun listening for the whole family.-Deb Whitbeck, West Ottawa Public Schools, Holland, MI
